Sweden's most famous export after IKEA, these meatballs are surprisingly complex. The combination of beef and pork with cream sauce and tart lingonberries creates a perfect balance of rich and bright flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 onion, finely minced
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Lingonberry jam for serving
  • Boiled potatoes for serving

Instructions

    Soak breadcrumbs in milk, then mix with meats, onion, egg, and spices

    Form into small meatballs, about 1 inch diameter

    Brown meatballs in butter in large skillet, remove when done

    Make gravy: whisk flour into pan drippings

    Gradually add stock, whisking until smooth
